Momentum growing for PC spikers

The Pulaski County Lady Cougar volleyball team has been on the edge of breaking through for some time now. This week may have been one of their better weeks in some time as they earned wins in both matchups against Christiansburg and Salem.

 

The action began Monday with the Lady Cougars traveling to Christiansburg to face the Blue Demons. The JV team took the floor first, falling in two sets, 17-25 and 14-25. Jacey Hendrix earned four kills for the younger Lady Cougars.

The varsity matchup was close, but the Lady Cougars pulled out three straight sets in a row to take the win, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-22.

 

Juliana Paine led the squad with nine kills, five aces and 16 digs. Haleigh Brown had 23 assists, three aces and five digs. Madison Webb added six kills and 13 digs.

 

Thursday found the Lady Cougars back in the friendly confines of the Cougar Den, hosting the Salem Spartans.

 

The JV team took the floor and dropped the first set 10-25. With defeat staring them in the face, the Lady Cougars readjusted and won the second set 25-21 to send it to a third set. Pulaski County came away with a 15-10 win in that set to win the match 2-1.

 

Leah Keefer led the way with 28 assists and eight digs. Jacey Hendrix added seven kills and nine digs. Jaden Lawson and Maggie Shartzer added five kills each. With the win, the JV squad now has a record of 2-4.

 

The varsity squad took the floor next and continued the fun by taking down the Spartans in three sets, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-16. With the win the Lady Cougars move to 4-2 on the season.

 

Haleigh Brown led the Lady Cougars with 30 assists, four aces and 10 digs. Skylar Burton added eight kills and three aces. Juliana Paine added seven kills and 15 digs.

 

The Lady Cougars will be back in action Monday when they host Cave Spring for senior night. JV action will begin at 5:30 followed by the varsity contest at 7 p.m.
