Pulaski has arts funding available

Local arts organizations that could use a little extra money to accomplish their mission may be eligible for assistance through town of Pulaski.

Each year, the town is eligible to receive a $4,500 match from Virginia Commission for the Arts (VCA) for distribution to local arts organizations. When combined with Pulaski’s contribution, a total of $9,000 is available.

The funding is part of VCA’s Creative Communities Partnership Grant program, designed to encourage local governments to support the arts.

Only independent, stand-alone arts organizations that serve the locality are eligible for funding through the program. School arts programs and arts programs operated by local governments, committees, councils or parks/recreation departments are not eligible, according to VCA guidelines.

Pulaski Finance Director Rebecca Leeper said organizations such as dance companies and theatres are eligible to apply for funding. To apply, contact Leeper at 994-8640 by the deadline of 5 p.m. March 1.

One or more members of town staff will determine which applicants to forward to VCA. The Commission reviews the forwarded applications for eligibility and recommends the level of funding, if any, the organization receives.

In past years the funds were awarded to Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley and Pulaski Theatre. This year the hope is to assist additional eligible groups.
