Eighth-grader Emily Webb collected four hits and Mackenzie Wyrick completed four innings with a no-hitter to help lead the junior varsity Lady Cougar softball team to a dominating 21-0 victory over the visiting Patrick Henry Patriots Thursday at Pulaski County High School.

The Lady Cougars started the game strong and never took their foot off the gas. Paige Huff cranked a single toward third base as the first batter. Webb connected for a double that brought Huff home. A dropped third strike turned into third base after Ally Fleenor hustled, but not before another run crossed the plate. Makaylyn Alley singled to score Fleenor and then Dixie Jones crushed the ball for a double to left field that scored Alley.

A single by Gwendolyn Puckett brought Jones across home plate and then Kadynce Almarode singled toward second base to bring Puckett home. Huff reached first on an error, stole second and then scored when Webb hit a ground ball single that also scored Almarode.

Leading 7-0 at the end of the first, the younger Lady Cougars were not satisfied. Fleenor started the bottom of the second inning off with a home run over the right field fence. Alley doubled and then came across the plate on a single by Maddy Price. Puckett reached first base on an error and Almarode walked, but Huff hit a line drive that was misplayed to reach first and score Price. Webb connected again, this time for a single, to bring in Puckett.

Wyrick singled to score Almarode and Huff. Erin Russell, who was in the game to pinch run for Webb, moved to second. Alley earned walks to load the bases and then Jones also earned a walk to score Russell. The inning ended with the Lady Cougars up 14-0.

Price, Almarode and Wyrick scored in the third inning to move the score to 18-0 for the Lady Cougars. Madison Aulabaugh and Huff scored in the fourth to bring the issue to a close with the Lady Cougars winning 21-0.

Wyrick went four innings giving up no hits, no runs and only one walk while striking out seven batters. She was relieved by Tali Gallimore to finish out the game.

Every Lady Cougar who entered the game recorded at least one hit. Almarode, Huff, Alley and Wyrick earned two each.

With the win, the JV Lady Cougars have now won three games in a row. They’ll be back in action Tuesday, April 30, when they travel to Roanoke to face the Hidden Valley Titans. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
