ROANOKE – Trailing 4-1 after three innings, the Pulaski County Cougars clawed their way back by scoring three runs in fifth, four in sixth and two more in seventh to upset the Hidden Valley Titans in Roanoke 10-6.

Cougar pitcher Punky Foster threw six innings scattering seven hits, striking out five and walking only two. He was backed by strong defense from the Cougar fielders as they committed just two errors. Drew Dalton and Clay Remington were brought up to play on the varsity and both really came through. Dalton had two hits and a walk. Remington had two hits as well, scoring two runs and was hit by a pitch.

Chris Remington, not to be out done by his younger brother, had three hits knocking in three and scoring twice with his three doubles. Foster helped himself with the bat as he had two RBI and scored a run.

Austin Gallimore also had two hits with two RBI. All nine starters had at least one hit as they banged out a game and season high 15 hits.

“This feels good and it’s a big win for us,“ said Cougar Head Coach Greg Allen. “We played much better today with the bats and gloves. Happy for the guys and I thought Drew (Dalton) and Clay (Remington) performed very well for us in their first varsity game. They were huge for us as was Foster (Punky) on the mound. He battled and maybe this will give some guys some confidence.“

Hidden Valley was led by Cam Robertson as he had two hits and three RBI. Matt Strong and Brian Henry both had two hits in a losing effort. Jake Harvey started on the mound and went five innings. He surrendered four runs on six hits. Sam Dragovich relieved him in the sixth and took the loss as he got tagged with six runs and nine hits in just two innings.

Pulaski County improved to 5-9 and this was their first district win of the season. They are now 1-6 in district play and it was Coach Allen’s first win in the district as head coach.

The Cougars will be home Friday as they host Blacksburg. First pitched is slated for 5 p.m.
