Mary Alice Gardner Murphy

Mary Alice Gardner Murphy, age 75, of Dublin, Va., passed away at home early Friday morning April 5, 2019, surrounded by husband, daughter and family members due to health issues.

Born April 25, 1943, in Pulaski, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lowman and Jessie Blankenship Gardner. Her son, Charles Wayne Tolbert, and brother, Alfred Gardner, also preceded her in death.

She was retired from Radford University housekeeping and had a love for flowers, gardening, crafts and her dogs.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Jesse Lee Murphy of Dublin, Va.; daughters, Rose Brownell (Paul) of Blacksburg, Va., and April Guynn of Louisiana; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step-daughter; one step-grandson; two special nieces, and special friend, Renee Blevins.

The family is receiving friends 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Bower Funeral Home-Chapel, Pulaski, Va., with graveside services following at 2 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va., with Pastor Mike Hall officiating.

The family would like to give thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice of the New River Valley for being a Godsend in the time of need with Mary and family.
