The varsity game ended with Pulaski County on the bad end of a 5-0 scoreboard. Floyd County scored one run in the fist, two in the second, one in the fourth and a final run in the sixth to hold on for the shutout victory.

The lady Cougars were held to just two hits while committing four costly errors. The Buffaloes didn’t burn up the scorebooks either, only collecting five hits in the contest, but committed no errors.

Josie Brewer and Lauren Cruise collected the two Pulaski County hits. Brewer also spent the entire contest on the pitching rubber. In her six innings of work she gave up five hits, five runs (three earned) and just two walks while striking out 10 batters.

Olivia Yates earned the pitching win for Floyd County giving up two hits and no walks while striking out seven batters.

The loss drops the varsity Lady Cougars to 3-6 on the season.

The junior varsity squad earned hits but couldn’t keep pace with the younger Floyd County squad, falling by a final score of 21-9. The loss leaves the JV team with a record of 3-4.

The varsity team is scheduled to host Floyd County in a rematch Thursday, April 18, at the Lady Cougar Softball Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Both teams are scheduled to play Cave Spring Tuesday, April 23.
