JV Lady Cougars earn win over Giles

The junior varsity Lady Cougar softball team has been slowly gaining momentum, and Thursday then earned a huge 21-6 win over Giles thanks to a no-hitter by three different Pulaski County pitchers.

 

With the win the JV Lady Cougars move to 2-3 on the season.

 

The Lady Cougars scored six runs in the first and six more in the second inning, followed by one run in the third and eight in the fifth to put the issue to rest. The team earned 10 hits and committed no errors in the contest.

 

Giles answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, but could only manage one other run in the bottom of the third. Their runs came after Pulaski County allowed seven walks and one hit batter that were able to roam the bases. The Spartans committed four errors in the game.

 

Eighth-grader Kadynce Almarode led the way with two hits, three RBI, two walks and three runs scored. Sophomore Madison Alabaugh earnedone hit, two walks, three RBI and three runs scored. Eighth-grader Emily Webb had one hit, one walk, two RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Makaylyn Alley had one hit, one walk and two runs scored. Eighth-grader Paige Huff had a walk and two runs scored. Freshman Gwendolyn Picket had a walk and one run scored. Freshman Maddie Price had one hit, two RBI and a run scored. Eighth-grader Brookelyn Clark had one hit, two RBI and a run scored. Eighth-grader Dixie Jones had one hit, two walks and four runs scored. Freshman Ally Fleenor had two hits, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Erin Russell had a run scored and sophomore Mackenzie Wyrick had a walk and an RBI.

 

 

Russell got the start on the pitching rubber, going one inning and giving up no hits, seven walks and five runs while striking out three batters. Wyrick came in next, going two innings and giving up no hits, one walk and one run (unearned) while striking out seven batters. Huff finished the game for the Lady Cougars giving up just one walk.

 

The Lady Cougars also stole 12 bases during the game with four players stealing more than one.

 

The JV Lady Cougars will be back in action Tuesday when they host the Salem Spartans. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
