Boone competing in New York

David Gravely/SWT – PCHS senior and six-time state champion Grace Boone will be in action on the national stage this weekend in New York.

Pulaski County High School senior Grace Boone will take her six state championships and a can-do attitude to the New Balance National Championships in New York this weekend.

Boone, who has already committed to join the Virginia Tech Hokies in the fall, will compete in the 800-meter race against current American record holder Athing Mu, who is a junior at Trenton High in New Jersey, as well as many other top tier runners from across the country.

Last year in the VHSL indoor state finals, Boone turned heads when she competed in the 500, 1,000 and 300-meter races, winning the 500 and 1,000-meter and placing in the 300.

At the Outdoor National meet, Boone moved from 63rd to 10th in the national rankings with the seventh fastest time in Virginia history in the 800-meter race. Her time was just .04 seconds shy of being an All-American.

When she takes to the track this weekend, she will be competing for a national title and looking to make a statement heading into the spring sports season. Her race is set to begin at 10:10 a.m.
