ROANOKE COUNTY — A Wakefield man was arrested Wednesday morning after his alleged attempt to elude Pulaski County authorities on Interstate 81 ended in Roanoke County.

Dejuane Ramel Wilson, 24, is being held in Roanoke County Jail on a charge of felony elude, which was filed by Virginia State Police, said state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller. Additional charges are pending in Pulaski County.

Geller said a Pulaski County deputy attempted to stop Wilson’s 2013 Chevrolet Camaro around 10:33 a.m. after it allegedly passed through the New River Bridge work zone at mile marker 104 at a speed of 78 mph. The speed in the work zone is 60.

When the Camaro refused to stop and entered into Montgomery County, the deputy requested assistance from Virginia State Police. Troopers were able to get the vehicle stopped at mile marker 138.7 in Roanoke County. Geller said Wilson was arrested without incident.
