Building Bridges launches the Community Leader, Community Readers Program

Building Bridges has provided child care services in Pulaski County for 14 years this coming May.  With a mission to provide quality care and promote the importance of early childhood education in our community, along with nurturing a sense of community in our children and working to develop early literacy a new program has been created.

This program takes children beyond the classroom/teacher experience by connecting them to diverse backgrounds of readers, showing them that reading is fundamental to all people. Additionally, it is a fun experience and children learn to associate books with pleasure.

Jan. 11, 2019, Chief Dennis Lambert and “Hoot” the owl kicked off the program at Building Bridges with approximately 70 preschoolers in attendance. The CLCR program was only one part of new beginnings at Building Bridges. This year they will focus on more hands on learning experiences that involve the support of the community. January the focus has been on Transportation, so the children have had special guest bringing in various forms of transportation for the children to explore. Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Pulaski County Public Schools, Conrad Brothers Marina and many other organizations and individuals have stepped up to provide these learning opportunities.

New opportunities have been presented by partnering with the Pulaski YMCA Child Development Center, expanding the Community Leader, Community Readers Program to reach more families/children in Pulaski County. The kickoff date is March 6 at 9:30 a.m., “Hoot” the owl and Tina Martin owner of Building Bridges will there for the launch of the program. Both programs value building strong community ties with the families/children and hope to see relationships grow between our community leaders that give their time to read and the future community leaders of tomorrow.
