Teen killed in Grayson head-on crash

GRAYSON COUNTY — A 15-year-old Independence teen was killed Wednesday afternoon in a head-on collision that seriously injured four other youth and two adults.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said all of the injured were traveling in a 2014 Nissan Rogue being operated by a 31-year-old female.

An investigation by Trooper J.A. Vaughan determined the Nissan was eastbound on Route 58 when it crossed into the westbound lane, striking a tractor-trailer head-on.

Geller said none of the seven people in the Nissan was wearing a seat belt when the 4:45 p.m. crashed occurred. The 15-year-old died at the scene. She said the driver, an adult male passenger and 8-, 11-, 13- and 16-year-old passengers were transported to Winston-Salem and Sparta, N.C. hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.

The truck driver was not injured.

The investigation is continuing, with charges pending, Geller said.
