Target practicing wounds neighbor

WASHINGTON COUNTY — A woman was wounded Saturday when a stray bullet struck her as a neighbor was target practicing, according to Virginia State Police.

An investigation by State Police’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations unit in Wytheville determined a 41-year-old male was target practicing when a stray bullet penetrated the wall of a neighbor’s home, striking the woman.

The 33-year-old woman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of “serious, but non-life threatening injury,” police report.

The 6 p.m. incident occurred in the 19,400 block of Woodland Hill Road.

The investigation is continuing. No charges have yet been filed.
