Man charged with raping local woman

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — An October hearing date has been scheduled for a Shawsville man accused of raping a Pulaski County woman in July.

A preliminary hearing in the case of William Michael Joseph Miller, 21, was slated to be held in Montgomery County General District Court last week, but it was continued at the defendant’s request, according to court records.

Miller is charged with rape, abduction by force or intimidation and strangulation. He is being held without bond at Montgomery County Jail.

Lt. David Light with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said officers received a 911 call reporting a rape around 2:55 a.m. July 15. When they arrived on the scene, in the 3700 block of Old Creek Road in Blacksburg, they learned the alleged victim had flagged down a passerby, who picked her up and called authorities.

Although Miller was not at the scene when police arrived, Light said he did arrive a short time later.

Miller was initially placed under arrest on a charge of being drunk in public. The other charges were filed later.

Light said the alleged rape occurred outdoors, not inside a residence.

The victim’s name is not being published due to the nature of the charges.

Miller’s new preliminary hearing date is Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.
