Florence causing scheduling issues

There have been several cancellations, postponements and events rescheduled due to the approach of Hurricane Florence.

The Pulaski County High School varsity football game, normally occurring Friday, has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Kenneth J. Dobson Stadium. The JV football game against William Fleming High School at William Fleming High School, which was postponed two weeks ago, is now scheduled to take place at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17.

The PCHS girls’ volleyball team will now play Hidden Valley at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at the high school gym. This game was rescheduled from Thursday. The JV team will play at 5:30 also Wednesday. The PCHS girl’s competition cheer was scheduled to travel to the varsity invitational at Brookville High School Saturday, but that has been canceled as well.

GO Pulaski County, an organization that had planned to send volunteers all over the county Saturday, Sept. 15, has rescheduled their event to Saturday, Oct. 20. Individuals or groups who couldn’t volunteer for the Sept. 15 event but can volunteer Oct. 20 should contact the group organizers for assignment information.

Claytor Lake State Park announced late Tuesday that they are closing all campgrounds and cabins, effective immediately. A more detailed story on that can be found in todays issue.

The Gunz and Hoses charity softball game at Calfee Park, which was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15, has now been moved to Saturday, Sept. 22.

The Ricky Jones Memorial Scholarship Pig Wrestling event, also scheduled to occur this weekend has now been canceled.

Whether or not the Pulaski County Flea Market will take place this weekend as scheduled is still up in the air with the final decision set to be made Wednesday afternoon. Per their website at press time, the event is still scheduled for now.

Radford University Men’s soccer’s game scheduled for Tuesday at Coastal Carolina was canceled and the women’s soccer game against Charleston Southern, slated for Saturday, has been postponed to Tuesday, Oct. 23

No word yet on whether the Hokies will play as scheduled Saturday, but if history is any guide, Virginia Tech fans should get ready their raincoats. Per the school’s athletic website, an official decision is scheduled to be made today.
