Camp gearing up for 23rd golf tourney

Camp Dickenson, which provides camp experiences for about 400 youth and adults every summer, is gearing up for its 23rd Annual Benefit Golf Tournament to be held Aug. 10.

The nonprofit United Methodist Church Camp is seeking sponsors, prizes and golfers for the four-person captain’s choice tournament, which is held at Draper Valley Golf Club in Draper. Call 276-744-7241 or email campdickenson@centurylink.net to become a sponsor or take part in the tournament. Deadline to register for play is Aug. 3.

Camp Dickenson, located along the New River in Fries, offers a wide variety of activities for campers, including swimming, hiking, crafts and canoeing. Bible study and worship also is part of each day’s activities. Although the camp is in Fries, it serves residents of Pulaski and other area counties.

John Hawley, who helps organize the tournament, says sponsor names will be prominently displayed at the tournament and each golfer receives a list of sponsors and prize donors.

Tee off time for the tournament is 1 p.m. Lunch, which is provided, is 11:30-12:30 p.m. In addition to lunch, the entry fee includes cart, green fee, good bag, one red tee, one Mulligan and all amenities. Prizes are given for first and third place teams, and a $10,000 prize goes to whoever is able to get a hole-in-one on the 163-yard hole 7.
