He is The Way

by Pat Farrell

Watching one of the late Reverend Billy Graham’s wonderful sermons, I was struck by the size of the crowd and the power of his message of God’s love. God loves us so much that He gave His only Son as the sacrifice for our sins. Jesus, Lord and Savior, is the only way to The Father, and the only road to heaven.

Then I thought, “That sermon was perfect for those huge crowds who have never heard or don’t understand the Gospel, but not for me. I preach in churches and revivals where Christians know the Gospel and understand He is the only way.”

Or do they?

Several years ago, I was a participant for a short time in a small gathering of “Christians,” many of whom were pastors. In our discussion of Christ, I realized that many of those represented there did not believe what they claimed to portray. Believing in Jesus, yes, but as “one way” and not The Way.

I have lived in denial. Maybe I didn’t hear them correctly. Perhaps I misunderstood. And slowly the truth has sunk in.

I must get back to preaching the good news of Jesus Christ in the churches and at revivals. If “Christians” and pastors have been led astray by false teachings – if they themselves are preaching false doctrine – I have work to do.

Thank you Reverend Graham for your courage and wisdom to speak the truth in love. And that truth is Jesus Christ died for our sins. That truth means we must come to the cross repenting of our sins and follow Him. I am a Christian. I follow Christ and in doing that, I believe what He said.

Forgive me, Lord. The Reverend Graham has shamed me as an evangelist. Never again will I assume people in the church understand the Gospel.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
