JV Lady Cougars continue to roll, varsity stumbles

ROANOKE – The Lady Cougar basketball team took a tough loss Tuesday, falling to Hidden Valley on the road 46-59.

 

The loss drops the varsity squad to 7-11 on the season and 3-5 in River Ridge District play.

 

The game was a back-and-forth event, with the Lady Cougars leading 18-17 at the end of the first period. Hidden Valley stepped things up in the second, outscoring Pulaski County 12-6 to take a 29-24 lead into the halftime break.

 

The Lady Cougars bounced back again in the third, outscoring the Titans 11-9, but Hidden Valley was able to outpace the visiting Lady Cougars 21-11 in the final quarter to earn the victory.

 

Amiah Stables scored 12 points to lead the Lady Cougars. Alaina Akers and Maddie Ratcliff scored eight points each and Kassidy Secrist added five. Alicia Noble and Tyanna Haynes scored four each, Taylor Dickerson scored three and Savannah Solomon added two.

 

Hidden Valley was led by Jordan Sadler with 22 points. Sawyer Freeland scored 15 in backup.

 

The Lady Cougar junior varsity squad moved their record to 18-0 was a 66-14 blasting of the younger Titans.

 

The two Pulaski County squads were scheduled to travel to Christiansburg Wednesday in a rematch with the Blue Demons before hosting Blacksburg Friday at the Cougar Den. JV action is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity contest at 7 p.m.
