Six Pulaski County students are moving on to the district competition after winning the 2018 Hoop Shoot sponsored by Pulaski Elks Lodge 1067.

Boys and girls, ages 8 to 13, competed in three age groups in the local Hoop Shoot held at Central Gym. A male and female winner was named in each age category.

Lodge champions in the 8- to 9-year-old category are Skyelar Saunders, daughter of Curtis Stiltner and Kayla Saunders, and Seth Carter son of Michael and Amanda Carter.

In the 10-11 age group, Taylor Goble, daughter of Randy and April Goble, and Will O’Neal, son of Joshua and Laura O’Neal, are champions.

Champions in the 12 to 13 age category are Erin Russell, daughter of Dean and Gina Russell, and Diego Turner, son of Michael and Jessie Turner.

Winners move on to the district competition in Bedford. District winners advance to a state competition, and those winners compete in the national Hoop Shoot to be held April 21 in Chicago.

Local competitors were selected through contests held during physical education classes at each Pulaski County school in the fall.

School champions were Goble, Carter and Jeremiah Turner from Snowville Elementary; Kaitlyn Wimmer and Addison Puckett from Critzer, and O’Neal, Saunders and Jasmine Johnson from Pulaski Elementary. Dublin Middle School champs were Russell, Turner, Hannah Keefer and Gabe Walker.

Goble, last year’s 8 to 9 winner, represented Pulaski Elks Lodge and Snowville Elementary School through four major competitions. She was among the top 10 hoop shooters competing in the national contest in Chicago.

Pulaski Elks expressed gratitude to the staff and teachers at participating schools and participant parents and families for allowing the students to compete.

The Hoop Shoot is intended to recognize athletic ability and reward accomplishment, while also teaching sportsmanship.
