Joseph ‘Joe’ Douglas Davis Jr.

On Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, Joe Davis Jr. took his last breath on Earth and his first breath in Heaven at the age of 66.

Born Jan. 9, 1951, in Newbern, Va., he was the son of the late Joseph Davis Sr. and Virginia Isabelle Scott Davis.

Joe spent 15 years in the United States Army and Army Reserves as a drill sergeant. He worked for Radford Arsenal (Aliant Tech Systems) for 28 years.

He was the treasurer of Old Dominion HOG Chapter of Wytheville from 2003-2011 and served as president of both the Ruritan Club and the OCAW Union.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kathy Hancock Davis of Dublin, Va.; children, Joseph “Joey” Douglas Davis III and wife, Allison Gordon Davis, of Lexington, Ky., Timothy “Tim” Lee Davis and wife, Kathryn Buza Davis, of Houston, Texas, Wendy Kaye Dean and husband, Dennis Dean, of Pulaski, Va., and Amanda Dalton Wright and husband, Brad “Opie” Wright, of Dublin, Va.; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Tommy (Carol) Davis of Shiloh, Va., David (Phyllis) Davis of Dublin, Va., Jerry (Paula) Davis of Dublin, Va. and Rodger (Gretchen) Davis of Dublin, Va., and walking companion/best bud, Sadie.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Bower Funeral Home-Chapel, Pulaski, Va., with the Rev. Mike Honaker officiating. Interment follows at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Va.

The family is receiving friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Joe’s memory be made to Lewis-Gale Cancer Center, 2400 Lee Hwy., Pulaski, VA 24301.
