The Pulaski County Cougars stopped a three game losing streak Tuesday as they won a home game over the Blacksburg Bruins, 76-67.

On offensive the Cougars looked aggressive. Senior CC Grubb scored a game and team-high 35 points. He hit six three-pointers and scored 24 in the first half allowing the Cougars to lead 41-35 at intermission.

The Cougars (6-4) also had 14 points from Kade Akers, 12 from Austin Reinhardt and Ben Poe chipped in with nine.

Blacksburg was led by Grant Johnston with 25 points. Drew Babcock scored 13, Cole Epperley scored 12 and Cordell Croy pumped in 11 in the losing effort.

Pulaski County came out hot on offense, with Grubb knocked down three three-pointers and 13 points in the opening period to put the Cougars up 21-16. They never relinquished the lead.

Grubb continued his sharp-shooting, hitting three more three-pointers in the second. The third quarter saw the Cougars go on an 11-3 run in the first four minutes to open up a 52-38 advantage. That turned into a 10 point lead going into the fourth quarter. Grubb, who only scored one point in the third, added 10 points in the fourth to preserve the win.

“We played well offensively tonight,” said Cougar Head Coach Andrew Hart. “We haven’t really had a practice now for almost a week and it showed on the defensive end. I’m not happy with how we did on defense. CC Grubb got hot there for us in the first half and I also thought Austin Reinhardt did a lot of good things on the offensive end. It’s a win and we’re happy to get back into the win column.”

The Cougar junior varsity won their fourth straight game with a 37-30 win over the Bruins. The Cougar JV saw 20 big points from Dillon Porter. AJ McCloud had five, Luke Russell and Hayden Gray chipped in with four points each. The Bruins were led by Eli Reinhardt with 12 points.

Pulaski County will be back in the Cougar Den Friday when they host the Knights of Cave Spring. Junior varsity action tips at 5:30 followed by the varsity around 7 p.m. The Cougars will also be home Saturday night when they host the undefeated Radford Bobcats.
