Fire parade set for Thursday

Pulaski’s 70th annual Fire Parade begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, traveling west up Main Street to Jefferson Avenue, featuring flashing lights, sirens, fire trucks and other first responder vehicles.

The parade is Pulaski Fire Department’s major activity during Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme is “Every Second Counts: Plan 2.”

A week focused on emergency preparedness and safety includes firefighter presentations at area schools, featuring emergency vehicles, Smokey Bear and Safe T Sam.

Fire Prevention Week officially began in 1925 by presidential proclamation. The renowned Chicago Fire of October 1871 led to a call for increased fire prevention education. That fire destroyed over 17,400 structures, left 250 people dead, and more than 15,400 residents homeless.

Firefighters urge families to make a plan in case fire strikes day or night.
