Town pledges $50k toward free college

The town of Pulaski has pledged $50,000 toward a program that would make education free for Pulaski County High School graduates attending New River Community College.

Before Councilman Greg East made the motion that passed unanimously during Tuesday’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting,  he noted NRCC is a local college and providing money for the Access to Community College Education (ACCE) program should be a “community effort.”

His motion followed a presentation by Angie Covey, executive director of NRCC Educational Foundation, describing how ACCE works between local governments and private partners to pay for two years per student at the Dublin-based community college.
