Oriole spikers open with victory over Giles

GILES – Pulaski Middle School opened the 2017 volleyball season on the road at Giles. The Orioles found themselves at a disadvantage from the beginning, with four starters not eligible to start for this match. However, everyone stepped up and it was a total team effort as the Oriole spikers downed Giles, 10-25, 28-26, 15-8 to start the season 1-0.

In the opening game, the Orioles managed just two hits, one each from Maddie Price and Lacy Donaldson. Karleigh Delph led the Orioles from behind the line, going 2-for-2 and Laci Armes was 2-for-3. Donaldson finished with one assist, and she, Armes and Paige Huff each had one tip. The top passer in the first game was Deserea Sadler.

The Orioles got things together in the second game. After going down 8-12, Pulaski picked things up and tied the game at 15-15. From that point forward, the match was tight, being tied at 23-23, 25-25 and 26-26 before the Orioles scored the final two points, to send the match to game three.

Huff was 5-for-6 from behind the service line, while Keslyn Secrist and Donaldson were both 4-for-4, and Delph was 4-for-5. Sadler led the Orioles’ offensive attack with five hits and Delph added two. Huff and Donaldson each had one assist. Delph and Huff were the top passers.

In the deciding game, Huff posted a 5-for-6 performance from the service line, while Delph was 3-for-3, Secrist and Ally Fleenor were both 2-for-2, and Sadler was 1-for-1. Secrist, Delph, and Courtney Cregger each had one hit. The top passers were Secrist, Delph, and Huff.
