The Lady Cougar volleyball teams had mixed results Monday when they played host to the Cave Spring Lady Knights.

The junior varsity squad rebounded from a loss at the end of last week to Carroll County by taking down Cave Spring in two straight sets. The win moves their record to 5-4.

Presley Martin led the way for the younger Lady Cougars recording five kills. Haleigh Brown earned six assists. Molly Cox recorded five digs and Makaylyn Alley added eight digs.

The news wasn’t as good for the varsity squad. They fell in three straight sets to the Lady Knights. The loss drops them to 4-5 on the season.

“In the beginning of the season one of our goals for the team was to be more consistent with our defensive play,” Cougar head coach Ted Prol said. “We are still struggling with that as a team. Our passes are not hitting the target areas and that makes it difficult to set up any type of rhythm for our offense. We have some very talented players, but right now I know that the biggest thing missing is heart. Passion is something that we all have within us, but sometimes it can be very difficult to find. I hope they find it soon.”

The Lady Cougars were scheduled to host Christiansburg Tuesday. The following Tuesday, Sept. 19 the teams will travel to Roanoke to face Patrick Henry. JV action will begin at 5:30 followed by the varsity contest at 7:00 p.m.
