GILES COUNTY — Participation in Giles County’s second Muddy ACCE Race nearly doubled Saturday, raising over $86,000 to help Giles students receive a college education.

Access to Community College Education (ACCE) is a program New River Community College offers to communities in its service area to help graduating seniors obtain a community college education. Each community’s program covers two years of tuition costs for students within that community based on need and funds available.

Giles County was the first community to partner with NRCC in the ACCE program. Pulaski Town Council recently pledged $50,000 toward an ACCE program for Pulaski County.

In addition to the funds collected through the mud race, New River Health Care Complex Inc. contributed $411,000 to Giles’ ACCE program to establish an endowment, thus ensuring funds are available in perpetuity.
