Deteriorating walls along Peak Creek threaten town

A deteriorating wall along Peak Creek has some Pulaskians worried that a flood might compromise the rock structure entirely, creating a scenario in which the whole town could be flooded beyond repair.

One concerned citizen has owned property near the creek for 40 of the 45 years he’s lived in Pulaski. Dr. John McElroy says a short time after he moved to town, rising creek water flooded the building across from his downtown Pulaski optometry office.

About seven years later, McElroy purchased two buildings on East Main Street that were converted into his office and a law office. Since that time, he says flooding has resulted in water “several inches deep” coming into his buildings, ruining carpet, drywall and equipment, and leading to loss of income due to business closures.
