Improvements proposed for Rt. 11 in Fairlawn


 If it passes muster with Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB), a plan for improvements to Route 11 in Fairlawn could result in sidewalks, additional and extended turn lanes, improved pedestrian flow and a reduction in duplicate commercial entrances.

The nearly $4.5 million highway project is one of multiple projects statewide that was recommended for funding through Virginia’s SMART SCALE law that scores transportation projects “to facilitate investment of limited tax dollars in the right” projects.

CTB will be accepting comments on Salem District SMART SCALE projects, such as the one in Fairlawn, during a 5:30 p.m. public meeting Tuesday at the Holiday Inn Valley View in Roanoke. Comments on non-SMART SCALE projects also will be accepted.
