Christiansburg PD recognized with Click It or Ticket Award

CHRISTIANSBURG – The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Highway Safety Office recently presented a Click It or Ticket Award to the Christiansburg Police Department.

The award recognizes seat belt usage rates during the May 2015 Click It or Ticket mobilization. Based on the seat belt rates reported in Traffic Records Electronic Data System (TREDS), the Christiansburg Police Department had the highest seat belt use among agencies of similar size in Virginia.

Virginia’s statewide safety belt compliance rate is currently 80.9 percent. Christiansburg’s safety belt compliance rate is 96 percent.

The Click It or Ticket campaign encourages the use of seat belts to increase safety on streets and highways.

The Click It or Ticket Mini-Mobilization enforcement begins Nov. 19-26. During this time, the Christiansburg Police Department will increase patrols to enforce occupant protection laws.

The goal of this mobilization is to reinforce the importance of using seatbelts and reducing the number of injuries and/or fatalities to vehicle occupants when involved in a motor vehicle crash.

Drivers and passengers are urged to use required seatbelts and ensure that underage passengers are properly secured or risk receiving a ticket.
