Feds have records available for former doctor’s patients

Patients of former Dublin pain doctor Linda Sue Cheek and her associates have until Nov. 10 to claim their medical records, if they so choose.

In November, U.S. Marshals Service took possession of Cheek’s medical office at Town Center Drive in Dublin as part of a court ordered forfeiture.

Cheek was convicted in February 2013 of 172 counts of illegally distributing controlled pain medications through her Dublin practice, New River Medical Associates. She is serving a 33-month sentence at Alderson Federal Prison Camp in West Virginia, where Martha Stewart was imprisoned in 2004.

Cheek filed her own appeal in May to the Fourth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals after her attorney stated the appeal was “without merit.”

The marshals service is offering to send patients their records, allow patients to pick their records up or transfer the records to the provider of the patient’s choice. There will be no charge to obtain records, but patients must provide proper identification before records will be released.

Unclaimed records will be destroyed.

Contact the U.S. Marshals Service for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke to make arrangements to obtain or transfer records by emailing Victoria.Johnson@usdoj.gov or calling 540-857-2750 or 540-857-2276.
