Radford Police investigating two structure fires

Radford City Police, EMS and Fire Units were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. to the 500 block of Clement Street in reference to a house fire, according to Lt. Andy Wilburn with the Radford Police Department.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the North side of the residence at 524 Clement Street to be engulfed in flames, said Wilburn, who also noted that the residence was found to be unoccupied.

The fire department extinguished the flames, but the fire had already caused extensive damage to the building.

As officers were responding to this fire, they noticed another close by residence catching fire at 530 Clement Street. When units arrived to this address, items in the carport of the residence were on fire, according to Wilburn, and the fire was quickly extinguished with no major structural damage.

Wilburn said both fires are believed to be intentionally set, but neither house had anyone living in them.

Both cases are under investigation with the Radford City Police Department. Anyone with any information regarding either or both of these fires is asked to contact the Radford City Police Department at 540-731-3624 or use the Radford Police Tip Line at 540-731-5040, or email investigations@radford.va.us.
