Judge: ‘guns and mental health’ don’t mix



A Pulaski County judge set a $25,000 secured bond for a Christiansburg man Thursday, but acknowledged he has “concerns” the man could pose a danger to the community.

“I don’t want to incarcerate someone for mental health” problems, Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Marcus Long Jr. said. However, he pointed out there aren’t really any alternatives in Virginia.

David Eugene Bennett, 35, is charged with brandishing a firearm, disorderly conduct and public intoxication in connection with incidents that occurred on the New River June 2.
