Crash sends mother and two children to the hospital

A mother and her two children have been hospitalized after being involved in a car wreck on Friday, July 25.

The driver, Crystal Lynn Lefler, 35, of Draper, ran her 2008 Chevrolet four door sedan off the right side of the roadway while traveling through the 3200 block of Lowmans Ferry Road with her children, ages 2 and 4. The vehicle then hit a tree and rolled into a field.

She has been charged with driving under the influence of drugs (DUID), according to Captain J.B. Saunders of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.

All three were transported to local hospitals, where the two children were later airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

At press time, the children were being treated there for serious life threatening injuries. One was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, Saunders said.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash with members of REMSI and the Draper Fire Department shortly before noon. Deputy Russell Mitchell and the Pulaski Regional Crash Team are still investigating the accident.
