Sponsors save Guns-N-Hoses fundraiser

Just when it appeared Safe Haven might lose its primary source of income — the Guns-N-Hoses charity softball game — sponsors stepped up to the plate in time to save it.

Ellen Mitchell, executive director of Safe Haven Child Visitation Centers of the New River Valley, said the charity game will be held Saturday, July 12, as scheduled thanks to major sponsors like BAE Systems (formerly Radford Arsenal), Pulaski Moose Lodge 2087, Pulaski Women of the Moose and Ruritan Road Ruritan Club.

Mitchell announced last week that the sixth annual softball game would have to be canceled unless “substantial” sponsorships were received by Friday. It would have been the first time the game had been canceled.

Now that the game is proceeding, orders are being taken for 2014 Guns-N-Hoses t-shirts. To pre-order by the June 23 deadline, call the Safe Haven office at 540-808-0096 Monday through Thursday, 1-4:30 p.m.

Shirts are available in sizes ranging from children’s small to adult 4X.

A nonprofit, all-volunteer agency, Safe Haven is a nonprofit, all-volunteer agency that provides traumatized, and often abused and neglected, children with a safe place to visit with estranged parents during court ordered supervised visitation. It is strictly dependant upon donations and grants to operate.

Even though sponsors came forward to save this year’s game, Mitchell said additional sponsors are still welcome. Since the game is Safe Haven’s only fundraiser of the year, sponsorships are important to ensure the agency can continue to provide the same level of service it has in years past.

There are three levels of tax-deductible sponsorships available:

•Grand Slam ($500), which includes all major advertising (newspaper, flyers and television) and box seating (while available);

•Home Run ($250), which includes print advertising, box seating (while available) and 10 general admission tickets, and

•Line Drive ($100), which includes 10 general admission tickets.

The game begins at 7 p.m. at Calfee Park in Pulaski. Gates open at 5 to provide the crowd with other entertainment.
