ATV wreck claims county youth

An ATV wreck in the Little Creek section of Pulaski County Friday claimed the life of a 13-year-old county youth.

Pulaski County Sheriff Jim Davis said authorities were notified of the incident involving a single all-terrain vehicle (ATV) around 4:30 p.m. Friday. A deputy started performing CPR on the boy until rescue personnel arrived, but the youth died later at an area hospital.

Davis said the wreck remains under investigation. He declined to release further information or identify the boy.

Although The Southwest Times has learned the name of the youth, his identity is not being released at this time to allow for proper notification of family and friends.

According to a social media website, a candlelight memorial service is being organized for the boy. It is planned for Thursday, July 3, 8-10 p.m., in Jackson Park in Pulaski.

Terrible tragedy. ATVs are basically mini-monster trucks. The bounce around a lot on rough terrain and can easily get out of control. They are more dangerous than they seem by a long shot. Ours weighs about 600 lbs. and I almost never drive it over 15 MPH. Almost turned it once going about 10 MPH and it scared the crap out of me.

Condolences to the family. I know there’s nothing that can really comfort them at this time.

This is horrible. I had a good friend killed on a atv during hunting season two years ago up on Cloyds mt.. They really are dangerous. I have rode and serviced the one that killed him and I thought is was way to fast and it was way to top heavy for me. My heart goes out to this very young mans family. 13 years old is tragic.
