Red Sun Farms holding job fair June 6-7

Red Sun Farms, a producer of greenhouse grown organic produce, will hold a job fair in June to take applications for jobs at its new facility on Route 100, north of Dublin.

The job fair will be held in Edwards Hall rooms 117A and 117B at New River Community College from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, June 6, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7.

According to a press release from the company, the “state-of-the-art” greenhouse facility will soon be completed and ready for operations to begin in July.

Those attending the job fair will be able to meet with members of the company’s human resources department, as well as speaking with members of Red Sun’s “global team members about what it’s like to work for Red Sun Farms” in order to “get a better insight regarding the technical aspects of greenhouse growing.”

“Interested candidates and the general public are invited to visit the job fair to learn more about the greenhouse growing process, the environmental benefits of greenhouse growing and the importance of high-intensity agriculture in today’s society,” states the press release.

Plans call for the Dublin facility to harvest its first crop in the fall.

Those who are unable to attend either day of the job fair, may send their resumes to For more information about the company, visit

I think this is great, but do you know that the first 50 employees are going to be from Mexico and that the county is building them a motel to live in. They are calling it a dormitory but the reason is that the area isn’t zoned for motels. I think that the people in this area have enough sense to grow tomatoes, what do you think? I think this is just a way to get lower wages and how many more will be coming over. Aint it just a coincidence that the plant is going to be so close to the airport. What grows in a hothouse? Well, I guess we will just have to wait and see what is grown, who will be the workers, and how long it will be here. Another thing, if these men are just going to train the people here how to grow these tomatoes then why are they building a motel, it looks like to me they would be going back, I hope it doesn’t take that long to train the people here.
