Volvo boosting production, adding jobs

Volvo production, new jobsBy MELINDA WILLIAMS

While some industries are struggling in the current economy, Volvo Trucks North America is getting ready to ramp up production at its Dublin plant, adding jobs in the process.

“We’re very pleased by the opportunity to increase production, and in turn, help the community by expanding our workforce,” said Lars Blomberg, vice president and general manager of the New River Valley assembly plant. The company expects to add about 200 jobs to its current workforce of around 2,350.

Plant officials say increased demand for Volvo trucks is prompting the need to increase production. According to spokesman Brandon Borgna, Volvo truck deliveries in North America, through February, increased 80 percent over the same time period last year.
