NRCC to offer handgun safety class

A handgun safety class will be offered through New River Community College Tuesday, Nov. 5, and Thursday, Nov. 7.

Both class meetings will take place 6 to 9 p.m. in Edwards Hall, room 206, on the Dublin campus. Range time will be offered on Saturday following the class.

The cost of the course is $60, which includes a textbook.

The six-hour classroom portion of the course, instructed by Joey Williams, is required. However, range time is optional.

The class is intended for individuals who are applying for a handgun permit through the courts and will cover topics such as the nomenclature of revolvers and/or semi-automatic handguns. Participants will also learn how to care for, maintain and store their handguns.

To register, contact the NRCC Office of Workforce Development at 540-674-3600, ext. 4323.

You can take the class online for about $25.00. You get watch the video then take the test. You pass, you print your certificate and forms to take to the court house pay the fee in about 4-6 weeks you get your concealed permit. Worked for me. And this is a Virginia class not some fly by night scam.

I myself did hands on class and it was better than any online class could ever be. Yes the online will get you your permit. But take the time to go sit down with a class, ask questions and get hands on experience with guns. Educate yourself the best way possible. Our instructor taught us self defense also, and how to react in certain situations. Online is a quick cheap way of doing it. But to me and the safety of my family go the extra mile and go to class! Some things you cant put a price on. I wish Virginia did not see online classes as a legal way to get a certificate.
