Local auto dealership helps give back to community

Direct Dodge Giving Contribution 8-3-2013By TRAVIS HANDY

Direct Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep in Wytheville is engaged in a special program offering local nonprofit and civic groups a place to hold car washes. They also hold monthly fundraising events, which benefit local organizations.

The dealership offers space on their lot to church, youth, civic and school groups every weekend through October for car wash fundraisers. The idea is to support local nonprofit groups by giving them a venue for a fundraiser and an opportunity to get a guaranteed $125 for their organization—if the car wash doesn’t go as planned, the dealership donates $125 or the difference, guaranteeing they don’t leave empty handed.

Sherry Spence, marketing director for Direct Dodge, said there are still openings for groups to sign up for fundraisers on Oct. 12 and 19. She emphasized that the opportunities for fundraisers are open to organizations in all local communities, not just those in Wytheville.

Direct also hosts Cars and Coffee, a classic car cruise-in of sorts, the first Saturday of every month. Cars and Coffee includes a silent auction every month to benefit a local community or charitable organization. The events run from 8-11 a.m. and along with coffee and car browsing, they offer breakfast foods.

In August they raised over $300 for the Family Resource Center and Children’s Advocacy Center, both in Wytheville. The Sept. 7 Cars and Coffee beneficiary will be the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program. October’s funds will go to Wythe County Humane Society.

“We’re just trying to reach out and give back to the community and make a difference,” said Spence. She said there are so many good causes in the surrounding areas and their efforts have been a success so far. She said they would like to continue offering organizations these opportunities to hold fundraisers.

The weekly fundraisers, as well as Cars and Coffee are held from 8-11 a.m. Saturdays at Direct Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep at 495 W. Lee Highway, Wytheville. Any group or organization wishing to schedule a fundraiser may contact Sherry Spence at 276-228-8801.
