Unidentified animal seen on trail cam

Can you help identify this animal from the picture shown here?

It is unclear if this is an unverified picture of a “Bigfoot.” It was recently discovered on a “trail cam” placed in the nearby mountains.

It was surprising, to say the least, when I discovered the image on the camera’s disc. What in the world can this be?

Carefully scrutinizing the image, it appears that the right arm shows fingers as the animal grasps the base of the tree stump. It also has elongated feet similar to a man’s appendages. Its fur is matted on the back but thin on the arms and legs. Unfortunately, the head and face are not shown by the image taken.

I think it must be a bear. It has to be a gear, does it not? I hunt this area annually and have seen no sign of a Bigfoot. I have seen bear scat and tracks before, so I can identify them.

No unidentified tracks, droppings, or any other indications of a large upright predator in the woods have ever been found, that I know of.

There were no discernable tracks on the leaf-covered ground near the camera where it was picked up. The mystery remains!

Your input would be appreciated.

If you zoom in. The front paws (hands) are the same size as the rear paws. This is the wrong shape for a bear. This looks like a primate from the Fort Chiswell Animal Park. The front legs are long and slender. If this would be a bear or something else it would have more muscle tone. I do not think this to be a bear. I would contact the Animal Park to see if a Primate has gotten loose. I live near Wythe Co and would like to know exact location of picture…..

Definitely primate. Not Little Bigfoot. Not Bear……. Nor costume. unless it is someone long torso and very short legs…. the distance from the hip and placement of the knee would not be comfortable for human.

Editor’s Note: Fort Chiswell Animal Park was contacted and while they have primates, they only have small primates and all are accounted for. They have never had any animal that fits this description.

Well it looks like a Monkey… possibly a Chimp… It doesnt appear to be a bear.. I dont like the arm and leg movement, bears do not have that range of motion. If it was a bear with a disease or starving that would be ok for the way its body looks. But the arms and legs are wrong. They appear ape like in structure and in use.

Hard to tell scale from this picture, but it looks a lot like a giant anteater to me. That’s a long snout on the left there and then that forefoot looks like it has those heavy claws curled under. There is a suggestion of the big tail in the back. Yep. Anteater! The fact that it’s on the wrong continent is a separate issue.

You should double click on the picture to enlarge it. What you’re thinking is a snout is the right arm/leg. I believe what you’re thinking is a long tail is either the right or left rear leg however there does appear to be a small “bob” tail. If you look at what could be the head there appears to be a tuft of hair like a cow lick. I recall back in 1978 or 1979 there were some power line workers out in the field southwest of Staunton, VA reported seeing a creature that was on all fours, but upon seeing the men stood up on it’s rear legs and walked away from them.

it is a bear, they dont have much hair in the summer. after a bear has been skinned it looks like a short human and muscler.look at the right rear paw, looks like a bear so it must be a bear or is it?

Why are you only Showing one picture if this was a trail cam there’ll be multiple pictures of the animal walking in and walking away where we could actually see the head and the rest of the animals?!

This was the only picture with a clear shot of the creature. The rest of the pictures were deer.

” It also has elongated feet similar to a man’s appendages.” From the description, this would be a monkey of some sort, not a bear. Don’t ever recall seeing bear tracks that looked like a man’s foot.

It’s not a near I’ve seen bears all season up close. Does look like some kind of monkey……then again considering where the picture was taken we are out in the country and many people take to the woods. It could just b someone camoflauging themselves to elude police or even to just live off the land. No joke it’s arms are very human like. It’s, easy to use a bearskin for a coat. Who knows but I’d let it be.
