Banzai Volleyball Camp a big success

PULASKI–The annual Banzai Volleyball Camp was held this past week at Pulaski Elementary School, where 35 participants took part in a four-hour a day event. The girls were instructed in the basic fundamental skills of the game, had competitions, and competed in 2-on-2, 3-on-3, and sixes competition throughout the week.

On Monday, the Camper of the Day was Malia Plummer, while the Hustler of the Day award went to Allie Phillips. There was a tie for the Play of the Da


y between Kierra Martin, Sierra Felty and Kaylee Corvin, and Phillips and Hanna Walson.

On Tuesday, Serenity Mitchell was awarded the Camper of the Day. Hustler of the Day was Evann Alls, and the Play of the Day was made by Aly Bailey and Mitchell. The winners of the serving game were Corvin and Kaylie Akers.

Mary Catherine Martin took Camper of the Day honors on Wednesday. There was a tie for Hustler of the Day between Alison Taylor and Martin. The Play of the Day was claimed by Phillips and Kayla Gardner. The winner of the hoop hitting contest was Walson.

Olivia Stacy captured Camper of the Day for Thursday, while Lexy Songster earned Hustler of the Day. There was a tie for Play of the Day between Taylor Sink and Aubrey O’Dell, and Morgan Jessie and Corvin.

Friday, Bailey was named the Camper of the Day and Bailley Nash took the Hustler of the Day award. There was a tie for the Play of the Day between Jessie, Erica Webb and Sidney Dalton, and Martin, Corvin and Webb. Bailey teamed with Songster and Makenzie Reno to take the passing and setting competition.

Friday was also the day for the awards for the week. The winners of the 2-on-2 competition for the week was the duo of Felty and Jaden Asbury. The 3-on-3 winner was the team of Phillips, Songster and Martin.

The sixes competition was won by the Oh Lawds. The team consisted of Gardner, Maggie Crisp, Alls, Songster, Rachel Martin, Victoria Barrett, and Phillips.

Most Improved younger camper was a tie between Emily Hoback and Autumn Burton. The Most Improved older camper was also a tie between  Gardner and Crisp.

Hustler of the Week went to Alls and the top server for the week went to Phillips.

Co-Campers of the Week were Sink and Phillips. The Campers of the Week received a t-shirt and certificate for their efforts.

Each camp participant received a certificate of participation and camp t-shirt. Other special awards were given throughout the week for winning the various competitions.

The Oriole volleyball team hosted a scrimmage on Friday and will open the regular season on August 26 when they travel to Fort Chiswell for a 4:30 p.m. contest. They will return home on August 27 to host Giles at 4:30 p.m.
