Roseanne Cash to play at BRMC next Friday

Roseanne Cash and John Leventhal will perform a concert along with Wayne Henderson and Friends at the Blue Ridge Music Center near Galax on Friday, June 14.

Cash, who plays music that encompasses country, rock, roots and pop, is the daughter of country music singer Johnny Cash and stepdaughter of country music singer June Carter Cash. She has won a Grammy and been nominated for 12, along with recording 11 number one singles. Her 2009 album, “The List,” won the Americana Music Association Awards 2010 Album of the Year.

Henderson, a Grayson County resident, is a luthier known for his handmade guitars and other stringed instruments. Celebrities who have had Henderson make guitars for them include Eric Clapton, Doc Watson and Gillian Welch. He was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship in 1995 during a White House ceremony.

There will also be a pre-concert benefit and reception featuring Cash, Leventhal and Henderson sharing personal stories of their craft and lives, followed by a wine reception and private tour of the Roots of American Music Museum.

Participants will have reserved VIP seating for the concert and the option to reserve a boxed dinner. There are 100 VIP spaces available and 10 backstage passes. Proceeds raised by the benefit will go to support the summer concert series.

“We are so fortunate to have such well-respected and talented musicians supporting the Music Center by participating in this event,” said Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation CEO Carolyn Ward.

Concertgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs; outdoor clothing is recommended and picnics are welcome. Smokehouse BBQ will be available for purchase during the concert. Pets and alcohol are not permitted in the amphitheater area, but pets are allowed on the trails and outside the visitor center.

The concert starts at 7 p.m.; seating opens at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission; children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased at or by calling (276) 236-5309, or at the Galax Visitor Center, Barr’s Fiddle Shop, and at the gate on the day of the show.

The pre-concert benefit starts runs from 5-5:30 p.m. and requires a $100 donation per person; backstage passes are available for an additional $50 donation per person.
