NRCC to offer Smart Board Technology Integration class for teachers

New River Community College will offer a course in Smart Board Technology Integration for classroom teachers beginning in June at the Montgomery County Technology Center at 1180 North Franklin Street in Christiansburg. Lynn Yates and Matthew McDaniel will instruct the course.

Class meeting are June 17-18, 5-8 p.m.; July 1-2, 5-8 p.m.; and July 15-16, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additionally, 21 hours of online coursework is required.

This course is for teachers seeking to integrate Smart Notebook into daily instruction. Participants will explore software that motivates and involves students to increase learning. Projects in this class will be enhanced lessons to fit teachers’ course content. Class attendance is mandatory and course objectives are aligned with the Virginia SOLs.

Participants will have the opportunity to apply video, animation, audio and student response features, locate and use online resources to create lessons, link to websites and create lessons to share with others. Other major course topics include a discussion of the interactive white board “Smartboard” and learning to use YouTube and Discovery Streaming to obtain educational videos.


This is a three-credit course and tuition is $381.15 for in-state students. Registration information is available from the NRCC Office of Workforce Development at 540-674-3600, ext. 4323.

    Are the dates for the Smartboard correct about July 15-16, this appears to be a Saturday and Sunday.

    Thomas, July 15-16 is a Monday and Tuesday. I think you may be looking at June.
