Cheek sentencing moved to August

ROANOKE – Sentencing has been postponed for a Dublin pain doctor who illegally distributed controlled substances through her practice.

Dr. Linda Sue Cheek originally was supposed to be sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Roanoke, but the federal court’s website shows the sentencing hearing has been rescheduled for 9:30 a.m. Aug. 16.

A jury convicted Cheek in February of 172 counts of a 173-count indictment. If she were to receive the maximum sentence on all counts, she faces 1,204 years in federal prison and a fine of $64.5 million.

Cheek also was supposed to be in court today for a supervised release revocation hearing in connection with 2008 convictions for welfare fraud, but a new date doesn’t appear to have been set for that hearing.

In 2008, Cheek was ordered to serve 600 hours of community service and pay over $25,000 in fines and restitution although she could have received up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

This person, masquerading as a doctor, needs to be afforded the opportunity for some lengthy personal introspection. She is a drug dealer pure and simple.

Has she been sentenced yet? 08/16/2013 has come and gone yet I still see her everyday walking free.
