Outdoor Spring Break geocaching, nature walks

Spend Spring Break, March 22- April 7, outside with Claytor Lake State Park and New River Trail State Park.

Claytor Lake is offering a variety of family friendly activities during Spring Break. Visit the Track Trails self-guilded nature trail and collect brochures on Birds of the Blue Ridge, Nature’s Hide and Seek, and the Need for Trees. Bring a GPS or rent one from the park to participate in the Tree-Mendous Geocache Adventure. Park Back Packs will also be available for tools and nature guilds. On March 23 and April 6, the park is offering ranger-led programs. Call 540-643-2500 for more information.
The New River State Park is offering a treasure hunt at Foster Falls through a hidden geocache. It starts with a download of first stage coordinates from geocaching.com. Provided that information, participants will have to decode, solve puzzles and find the cache. There will be a First to Find Prize, after that there will be a new prize each Saturday until April 7. GPS units will be available to rent. For more information, call 276-699-6778.
