Parrott man ‘critical’ after assault

The condition of a Parrott man critically injured in a fight last Thursday night has been upgraded.

According to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital spokesman Eric Earnhart, Robert Gravley, 31, was listed in serious condition there Tuesday morning.

Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mike Alderman said last week that Gravley was bleeding from the head and unable to speak when police arrived on the scene of a reported fight at 6419 Parrott Mountain Road around 9:45 p.m. Thursday.

He said it is believed Gravley was hit in the head with a tire tool.

Police were told the suspect left the scene in a vehicle. According to Alderman, he was later arrested at another residence and has been identified as Marshall Franklin “Mark” Metz III, 25, of Dublin.

Metz is being held without bond at New River Valley Regional Jail on a charge of malicious wounding. His preliminary hearing has been set for March 25 at 1:30 p.m. in Pulaski County General District Court.
