Dedication to public safety earns troopers recognition

Virginia State Police has recognized two Pulaski County troopers for dedication to public safety.

Troopers John Jones and Matt Coake were presented with “Excellence in Public Safety” awards for “consistent hard work, dedication to duty and … prolific efforts to make the highways and roadways of Pulaski County safer for the citizens of Virginia, who travel upon them,” said First Sgt. Mike Honaker.

“Both Trooper Jones and Trooper Coake are exceptional police officers that can always be counted on to put forth their best effort in carrying out their duties and responsibilities,” Honaker said. “As a fellow trooper, as well as a citizen, I feel very fortunate to have police officers like John and Matt working in our community because I know we have some of the best troopers in Virginia working right here among us in Pulaski County.”

He said, “Statewide, we have had a 2 percent reduction in fatal crashes over the past year and we have also witnessed less crashes right here in Pulaski County, largely because of the work of police officers like Trooper Jones and Trooper Coake.”

Jones was assigned to Pulaski County in 1996. He lives in the Dublin area with his wife, Marcella, and daughters, Courtney and Jennifer.

Coake transferred here in 2010 and resides in the Allisonia community with his wife, Ashley.
