Cougar Sports This Week By David Gravely

The Pulaski County High School spring sports teams will be getting into their River Ridge District match ups this week, while all but a hand full have completed the out of district portions of their schedules.

The Cougars soccer team will host Christiansburg (0-5-0) on Tuesday, followed by a road trip to Roanoke to face Cave Spring (4-1-1) on Friday. The Cougars currently hold a record of 4-0-2, and seem to be showing improvement with each game. With both boys and girls soccer, junior varsity action will begin for these games at 5:30, with the varsity contests getting underway at 7 pm.

The Lady Cougar soccer team has been one of the more pleasant surprises this spring, and currently hold a record of 4-1-0. The Lady Cougars will take the road trip to Christiansburg (5-1-1) on Tuesday before hosting William Fleming in a out of district make up game on Wednesday. Pulaski will finish out the week with a Friday home game against Cave Spring (1-4).

The Cougar baseball team is off to one of their best start in years as well, heading into district play with a 7-1 record. A home game against Christiansburg (7-3, 1-0) will start the week off on Tuesday, followed by a road trip to Cave Spring 3-4) on Friday. Game time for baseball games are currently set for 5 pm first pitches.

The Lady Cougar softball team will be heading into River Ridge District action with a 4-4 record. They will begin the week with a road trip to Christiansburg (4-6, 0-1) followed by a home contest against Cave Spring (5-5). All softball games are set to begin at 5 pm.

In other sports, tennis will be in action on Tuesday against Christiansburg, Wednesday against Salem, and Thursday and Friday against Cave Spring. Saturday will find the Pulaski County track and field team at Radford High School. Good luck to all of our Cougar athletes, and GO COUGARS!!

I’m getting alot of positive feedback on the “Blast from the past” photo’s we’ve been running. I hope everyone is noticing the new commitment to covering the local sports first.
