SWT’s Williams honored by VPA

Southwest Times New Editor Melinda Williams won a first place for photography at the 2009 Virginia Press Association Awards Banquet held in Roanoke last weekend.
The award was for a photograph of Pulaski County resident Jimmy Morris that was published in the Sunday, Nov. 29 edition of The Southwest Times. It depicted Morris sitting on the country-style porch of a woodworking shop behind his house in the Robinson Tract community.
The photograph was entered into the Personality or Portrait Photo category in the Daily Group 1 Division for newspapers with circulations up to 19,999.
Besides using it in her job, photography has been a hobby for Williams most of her life.
