Becky Lynn Bishop and Matthew Ethan Cleveland were united in marriage on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 3:30 in the afternoon at the Gazebo at Randolph Park with the Reverend Marcus Harrison officiating. During the ceremony, the bride and groom replaced the traditional lighting of the unity candle with the joining of unity sand. The joining of unity sand began with the mother of the bride and the grandmother of the groom, Mrs. Jeanne Kuikman of Palm Harbor, FL, joining the families and Becky and Matt completed the unity.
The bride was escorted by her father, Freddie Bishop, Jr. and given in marriage by her family and friends. She wore a strapless satin A-line gown with a cuff neckline and sweep train. The gown was accented by a matching pleated satin sash at the waist. Her one-tier, u-shaped veil of tulle featured a satin corded piping with a small silver tiara. Becky’s hair was styled by long-time friend, Autumn Alexander, owner of New Dimensions in Radford. The bridal bouquet had two yellow roses encased in white daisies with palm green ribbon and was designed by Northside Flower Shop.
The Matron of Honor was Mrs. Amy Berry, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Kim Alger, Miss Michelle Cook, Miss Jenn Ryan and Miss Jamie Schofell all close friends of the bride and members of the Dock 30 Crew. They wore matching canary yellow, spaghetti strap; crinkle chiffon long dresses with a beaded bodice and matching flip flops. The bridal party carried bouquets of fresh white daisies wrapped in palm green ribbon.
The Best Man was Mr. Alan Beaubien of Key West, FL, special friend and father figure to the groom. Groomsmen were Mr. Chris Logan, San Diego, CA, close friend of the groom, Mr. Eric Berry, brother-in-law of the bride, Mr. Sean Gallagher, friend of the couple, Mr. Kris Shelor-Bourne, friend of the bride and Mr. Bryan Frye, friend of the couple. The men wore khaki shorts, matching powder blue shirts and flip flops.
The wedding music was a montage of Caribbean soul, reggae, country, and pop, all favorites of the couple. Music was provided by Mr. Tim Bishop and family of All-In-One Entertainment as a gift to the bride and groom. Photography was by Brenda Hylton, Hylton Photography in Floyd. Videographer for the wedding and reception was Mr. Mike Mercker of Radford. The wedding was directed by Mrs. Danelle Summers, Lexington, SC, aunt of the bride and Mrs. Anita Dodson, friend of the bride and family.
A beach themed reception was held immediately following the celebration of marriage at the Dublin Lions Club. The Club was decorated with large beach and ocean murals; bamboo umbrellas; sea shells and sand; flip flops with tea light candles; sea shell, bamboo and rope garland highlighted by a six-foot, pre-lighted palm tree. Tim Bishop was the MC and DJ.
Miss Emily Landreth served as Hostess for the reception and Maizy Landreth attended the gift table and guest book. Both are friends of the bride’s family.
The reception was catered by the Shamrock Café on Claytor Lake State Park Road. Sherry McGuire and Jennifer Fields, owners, donated their time to enable guests to enjoy a variety of good home cooking. The McGuires are friends of the couple.
The three tier wedding cake and the groom’s palm tree cake were made by Mrs. Sherri Funk, of Bedford. These were gifts to the bride and groom from Sherri and her family who are long-time friends of the bride’s family.
Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ken Kuikman of Palm Harbor, FL, grandparents of the groom; Mr. Chris Logan, San Diego, CA, friend of the couple; Mr. and Mrs. Danny Sowers, Terrell, TX, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ball, Bedford, Mrs. Sherri Funk, Kaysi and Nick Funk, Bedford, all long-time friends of the Bishop family and Mr. Butch Hager, Las Vegas, NV, uncle of the bride.
