| Sommerfeld, Chaffin unite in marriage (06-30-2008) Sherrie Lynn Sommerfeld and Ronald Eugene Chaffin, Jr. were married May 10, 2008, at five o’clock in the evening. The ceremony was held at First Presbyterian Church in Highlands, N.C. with Dr. Don Mullen officiating. A dinner reception and dancing were held at the Sapphire Valley Country Club, Cashiers, N.C. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Sommerfeld of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Sherrie is a graduate of Oak Ridge High School and Auburn University, College of Architecture, with a degree is design. She is currently Vice President of Project Management at Trinity Partners, a commercial real estate company in Charlotte. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Chaffin, Sr. of Dublin, Va. He is a graduate of Pulaski County High School and Radford University, with a degree in management information systems. He is currently Technical Manager for the Global Corporate Investment Bank of Bank of America in Charlotte. The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents. Maid of honor was Tracy Haynie of Charlotte. Bridesmaids were Kathy and Lee Sommerfeld of Raleigh, N.C. The groom’s father served as best man. Groomsmen were Brad Alley and Billy Williams of Dublin, Va. Scott Sommerfeld brother of the bride, served as usher. Wedding music included Trumpet Voluntary by organist Angie Jenkins and trumpeter Scott Sommerfeld. Vocal selections were by Terri and Tim Ward of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Bagpiper David Landis, Highlands, N.C., accompanied the organ on the recessional, Highland Cathedral. Readers were the bride’s friends, Anne Campbell of Ft. Meyers, Fl., and Kay Snipes of Atlanta, Ga. Program attendants were Julie and Ashley Alley and Kristen Sommerfeld. The bride wore a gown designed by Lea-An Belter, made of crisp silk dupioni featuring a pleated bodice and a flared trumpet skirt with a chapel train. The neckline was encrusted with hand-sewn pearls and crystals, and the hem was adorned with a band of pearls and crystal. Tiny silk buttons extended the length of the bodice. The bridesmaids’ gowns were a trumpet silhouette in lagoon satin-faced taffeta with a chiffon pleated empire bodice with bow detail. The groom’s parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at the Library Club, Cashiers, N.C. After a honeymoon at Little Dix Bay, British Virgin Islands, the couple will reside in Charlotte, N.C. |
